Lure Coursing Dec. 7th

Plantation Heritage Park, Pavilion #10

Lure coursing is a sport which has generally been reserved for sighthounds, i.e. Greyhounds, Russian Wolfhounds, Whippets, etc.

Certainly most dogs outside of that group could never compete with the speed of those unbelievable dogs. However, that hardly means that all of our "wannabe" racers should miss out on all of the fun!

What kinds of dogs can do this?

If your dog loves to chase your kids, the neighborhood cats or, (hopefully not) the cars going down the streets in your neighborhoods, this is the sport for your dog.  Any dog from Chihuahuas to Great Danes and all in between are eligible. Our course, however, isn't big enough for greyhounds.

It gives our dogs a safe place to open up and run like the wind or in the case of some dogs, maybe a little breeze but that's okay, its about your dog having fun, not winning. Dogs love to chase and this gives them a place to do it! And it's great exercise for them but we won't tell them that!

How it works:

We set up an oval course,  surrounded by fencing to avoid interruption from dogs who aren't running.

We let loose the lure which is generally a plastic bag,  you let go of your dog and off he goes to follow the lure through the course.  He will come back with a smile on his face wanting more!

              When?!

Okay, we have you hooked already and you want to know when and where???

Please check our calendar as we will keep it updated.  We will also send out newsletters  to our members in advance.  We plan on having regular meets so your dogs can get out and run on a regular basis.

Fees

The fee for lure coursing will be $15 for two runs for non-members and $10 for two runs for members

We will also have a multi run pass available to members for 10 runs for $40

A "run" is generally twice around the course, depending on the dog that is running.

Here is Nicky, a Jack Russell Terrier as our test dog!

STRAIGHT RACING

For hire: If you have a private doggy event and are limited on space but would like to have lure coursing available for your guests or participants you can hire our lure coursing team to bring the fun of straight racing to your event.  Instead of racing in a circle which takes a large area to accomplish we can put a straight racing course just about anywhere.  The dogs in these photos are racing on a straight racing course.
